NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Several schools in New Hanover County are going to extra lengths to keep their students safe.

Anderson Elementary is one of many schools that has implemented a new computer program for visitors.

The Complete Campus Security System is designed to track anyone who comes into the school and notify faculty if a visitor is listed as a sexual predator.

When going to the school, you must type your name and reason for visiting into the computer program.  Then, your picture will be taken and printed on a badge to wear while you are there.  Before you leave, return to the computer and log out.

School administrators are happy with the new technology and say it has been beneficial.

"It's been vital in trying to keep up better records for us, because prior to this system, we had a list where you wrote in the name and time," said staff member Melissa Cox.  "It's very hard to read the parents time, they are always in a hurry. Then, to try and look and research when someone was in here, we would have to go back."

While New Hanover County officials say they would like to see the computer program in every school, it is up to the school's principal to decide if they want the technology.
